Community Library of Outdoor Things

We know that getting outdoors can come with a lot of costs, especially when you’re trying something new for the first time. Tents, sleeping bags, waterproofs, hiking boots, roll mats and camping chairs all add up. Our Community Library of Outdoor Things makes outdoor experiences more accessible, affordable and less intimidating for our community.

Availability may vary depending on the trip, group size and what has already been reserved, so we recommend requesting kit as early as possible.

How it works

When booking onto a Touch Grass trip or activity, we’ll let you know what kit is available to borrow and how to request it. We keep hire costs as low as possible so that borrowing remains accessible, while also helping us cover cleaning, storage, repairs and future replacements. Some items may require a small refundable deposit, which will be returned once the item is brought back in good condition. We ask that all borrowed items are returned clean, dry and packed away properly so they can continue being used by other community members.

Why this matters

The outdoors should not only be accessible to people who already have the right gear, the right experience or the right budget. For many of us, getting outside is tied to rest, joy, confidence, connection and belonging. By sharing resources as a community, we can reduce waste, make better use of existing kit and challenge the idea that everyone needs to own everything individually.

We’re always looking to grow our Community Library of Outdoor Things so we can support more people to access the outdoors. If you’re a brand or organisation interested in donating outdoor kit, we’d love to hear from you. We’re especially interested in good-quality, durable outdoor items that are suitable for camping, hiking, wet weather and beginner-friendly outdoor experiences.
